Jorma Elo Gran Paritita
Praised for his “stunning originality” (The Huffington Post), Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto creates his first World Premiere commission for BalletX. Known for his highly technical and choreography, Soto has premiered work at such companies as Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Ballet BC, and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Soto will mentor BalletX’s 2016-17 Choreographic Fellow, Tommie-Waheed Evans, who has worked as both a principal dancer and artist-in-residence with PHILADANCO!. His work infuses jazz with classical dance, investigating themes of social justice and his own African-American culture. Originally premiered at the The Wilma Theater in 2014l, the company will reprise Jorma Elo’s dark, atmospheric Gran Partita , inspired by Orson Welles' film-noir classic Touch of Evil.
Choreographic Fellowship made possible by the Wyncote Foundation
